My Childhood Is Here

Memories... This is possibly my favorite article thus far on Airborneturtle, in it I will explain what the pictures in my Memories Column signify, I will also share with you my favorite and fondest memories from my childhood. So let me take a trip down Memory Lane. We'll begin early in the morning, in Medford, NJ.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cereal
You see, ever since I was a young lad, I've loved Ninja Turtles. Not just the cartoons; but the toys, the movies, the apparel, the cereal. Yep. TMNT Cereal is definitly my fondest memory that included a bowl and some milk. Unless I include the one about Mowgli the man cub and a skateboard, but that's just absurd. Anyway if I try hard enough I can still taste the "crunchy, sweetened Ninja Nets with Ninja Turtle marshmallow shapes". Bring it back Ralston, bring it back...

The Electronic Command Compound Playset
I've probably gotten more fun out of this toy than any other I have ever owned. First of all, I loved Jurassic Park so obviously I had the right toys to use in this beast. Second of all, I used this as the "official" meeting house where all of my most important figures such as Luke Skywalker and Hordak would meet and talk some serious business such as who would get to sleep in the "secret" Compound Attic or who would have to mop up when Walrusman would miss the toilet. Actually, I still have it with every piece still intact, including stickers! Yeah...

The Beginning of Cheers
If you have been reading my articles on this site long enough, you should proabably already know that I'm a huge Cheers fan. Well actually, I should say that I love Cheers, I'm not 400 pounds or anything. But if it wasn't for memeories, I don't think that I would have seen Cheers nowadays. You see, when I was little my grandparents watched Cheers and every Thursday night that I was over their house, I would sneak out of bed and watch the beginning of Cheers. You know the song, Where Everybody Knows Your Name. Now Cheers is my absolute favorite show and it's all because of Gary Portnoy and Judy Hart Angelo.

The Muppet Show
The Muppet Show memory that I have is a funny one because I don't remember any particular scenes from the show besides the infamous Mark Hamill episode. All I remember is that little part in the beginning of every show where they show the scene shown above. What's  up with me and televison show beginnings?

The Welcome Back, Kotter Lunchbox
It wasn't the show that I have memories about because Welcome Back, Kotter was televised before my time but I have pretty fond memories of this damn lunchbox. It wasn't my lunchbox, it was my best friend's father's lunchbox. When I was six years old I didn't know who Vinnie Babarino was, I didn't have the song Welcome Back stuck in my head 24/7; all I knew was it was a cool lunchbox, nothing more, nothing less...

Star Wars: Vintage Y-Wing Fighter Vehicle
This is my fondest memory of a Star Wars toy that I didn't own. By now I had been living in Massachusetts for about five years. I was in fourth grade and this beauty of a vehicle sat in a sandbox in one of the preschool classrooms. I must've considered stealing this thing about 25 times. Sometimes I would take bathroom breaks to go downstairs and peek at this thing through the classroom door window.

The Elephant Show
Skinnamarinky Dinky Dink, Skinnamarinky Doo!!! I loved this show, I have very vague visions from the show but I remember Sharon, Lois, Bram, and that godamn Elephant like it was yesterday. No wait, not yesterday, maybe like two years ago. Yeah that's it. Two years ago...Sadly The Elephant Show is no longer in syndication but has been replaced with a god-awful annoying show called Skinnamarink TV. Well actually if the original Elephant Show was still on I would probably say the same thing about that. But hey, when I loved it, I was a baby, babies don't get annoyed by people dancing in Elephant suits while two girls and a guy run aroung singing...

The Return of the Jedi Storybook
I'm not sure why I loved this book so much. All it really was was the entire movie in writing with plenty of photos. Every library class either my two best friends Charlie and Shane (who were also obsessed with Star Wars) or I would "take out" this book. It was funny because I must've read it at leaat 100 times and that little card stuck in the back of the book that showed the people who had taken it out looked like this:

Denver the Last Dinosaur
Denver was probably my favorite cartoon as a child. Mostly because I was obsessed with dinosaurs as a little kid. I must have had at least 5,000,000,000,000,000 dinosaur toys and I owned about every dinosaur movie there was, so it was only natural that my favorite show had to do with dinosaurs. I still have one episode on tape, so every once in a while I watch it, just to bring back some memories...

Haines School
There's not really much to say about Haines School, all it was was my old school in New Jersey. But I do have a ton a memories from that place such as the time where I was caught walking on top of the desks and when my girlfriend was mowed over by a seventeen year old doing a cartwheel. Those were the days...

Boy the way that my friends played, songs that in our small heads stayed, kids like us we were so short, those were the days, and you know where you were then, girls were girls and boys were boys, mister we could use a man like Maurice Haines again, didn't need no homework then, everyone knew Smelly Ben, gee my   old friends did play great, those were the days!

That was my twisted little tribute to Haines school my next memory, All in the Family

All in the Family
I'm not sure where these memories are coming from because it was on before my time so it must've been in syndication because I remember someone in my family watching it. Oh and by the way, I know that I sort of skipped over a few pictures in my Memories Column but that Haines School song that I wrote was a perfect introduction...
