4-18-03 Get to Know Lizzie McGuire

Lizzie McGuire is a Disney Channel family comedy and the most successful of their "Zoog Weekendz" shows. It's all about adventures of a junior high student and her two best friends as they try to deal with the ups and downs of school, popularity, parents, --just life in general. I am quite fond of the Disney channel myself as with a few of my acquaintances. Lizzie's full length feature is going to shabang into theaters on May 2. I have put together profiles of all the main characters so if you've never watched the show, you can still go see the movie. And don't worry, any characters named in any of the profiles, will have their own futher down the page.

Lizzie McGuire

Lizzie McGuire is your average 14 year old girl just trying to survive the world of Junior High. With the help of her best friends, Miranda and Gordo, Lizzie hopes to make out with some dignity intact. Lizzie has one younger brother, Matt. Matt is your typical younger brother, always getting on Lizzie's nerves. Lizzie gets along well with her parents, Jo and Sam, until they meddle in her private life. Lizzie's worst enemy is Kate Sanders. Although Lizzie wants to be able to stand up to Kate, Lizzie is in general not good at standing up for herself, and Miranda usually takes the fall for that fault. Kate used to be the group's other best friend, that was until she developed ahead of Lizzie and Miranda. Lizzie's crush is the school "hunk", Ethan. Although Lizzie doesn't believe she is very popular, she is probably more popular than she realizes.

Gordo (Adam Lamberg)

David Gordon A.K.A. Gordo

Gordo was the first of our favorite trio to reach the status of dating. He dated a girl by the name of Brooke Baker. Brooke was a friend of Claire's. He later ditched her. Gordo now has no crush that we know of. Gordo has made comments on Kate's upper body and Claire' smile, though. But, this dude is one smart cookie, he is a total non-conformist and he doesn't care what others think. He is often found filming documentaries, including the martial arts film he helped make for Matt.

Miranda Sanchez (Lalaine)

Miranda Sanchez

Miranda is the fearless counter-part of Lizzie. When Lizzie cowers away in fear, Miranda is often left to fix things. Miranda often does "the dirty work" for Lizzie, such as lying to her parents. Miranda loves singing, she is a member of the Glee Club. Miranda got to meet Aaron Carter and he said she was talented.

Ethan Craft

The resident "hunk" of Lizzie's school. Although he doesn't play any sports, isn't on any teams, and is pretty dumb he has Lizzie and Miranda, and the rest of the female student population swooning over him. Even though he could probably get any one of the girls in his school to date him, he hasn't showed any interest in a specific person.

Kate Sanders (Ashlie Brillault)

Kate Sanders

Kate was Lizzie and Miranda's other best friend, until she developed a chest and a holier-than-art-thou attitude. Suddenly Kate was the most popular girl in school and she left Miranda and Lizzie standing in the dust.

Matt McGuire

Bratty younger brother to Lizzie. Anyone who has ever had a younger brother can sympathize with Lizzie and her frustration with him. He does everything possible to humiliate and torture Lizzie, but whenever there is trouble (i.e. a burglar breaking into the house) he is there for Lizzie and she is there for him. Matt does what he wants to and that has often landed him in major trouble.

Jo McGuire

Jo McGuire

Mrs. McGuire is one cool mom, or atleast she hopes she is. She is always trying to help out Lizzie, but Lizzie doesn't want her Mom's help most of the time.

Sam McGuire (Robert Carradine)

Sam McGuire

Sam McGuire is your typical dad. He tries to be involved in his kid's lives, but is often left in the dust. He follows all of his wife's commands and is often clueless when it comes to Lizzie.

Lanny

Lanny, Matt's silent partner. Lanny is Matt's best friend, they are able to communicate telepathically and that is a good thing for Lanny and Matt, since Lanny doesn't talk. Lanny is very persuasive, according to Gordo, Lanny "could sell ice to a polar bear."

FAQ: (supplied by TVTOME.COM)

Is Lizzie really going off the air?

Although new episodes will continue to air into 2003, Lizzie McGuire the TV series has ended production, wrapping up its last episode in mid-June 2002. The Disney Channel has had a policy for many years which limits the number of episodes produced for their TV series to 65. So from the beginning, Lizzie wasn't intended to last for longer than that. (That's why it's not exactly accurate to say it's being cancelled. It's ending production.) But when word of this got around, fans of the show (including TV Tome users) raised such a fuss that Disney began to consider extending the run of the TV show past the 65-episode limit.

Unfortunately, there is no chance of that happening now. After the last new episode runs, we wouldn't be surprised if Disney still showed reruns of Lizzie, but we really don't know for sure.

However! There is a chance that a new Lizzie McGuire series will be developed, one that would follow her as she goes to high school. The rest of the cast might be significantly different, but it would stil have Hilary Duff playing Lizzie. If such as series is made (and it's only in the talking stages as far as we know), it would run on ABC in prime-time. The success or failure of The Lizzie McGuire Movie will probably have a lot to do with the proposed TV series' fate

Did Lalaine (Miranda) leave the show?

There was a lot of talk about this recently, and without indulging in too much speculation or gossip, the bottom line is that Lalaine will not appear in a few episodes of Lizzie. Apparently she had some personal reasons for wanting some time off, and Disney agreed to let her have it. This may not be the whole story, but that's all we're saying here. Lizzie didn't have many more shows left to film when this happened, so she won't be missing from too many episodes.

Whatever the real story is behind Lalaine's leaving the show, there are a couple of things we can be certain of: she did not leave simply to work on the Disney TV-movie You Wish. Disney surely could have scheduled things so that one of the main stars of their most popular TV series would not have to miss the final episodes of that series, including its finale. Also, Lalaine did not leave Lizzie so she could film her guest appearances as Chloe, the slayer-in-training on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. By the time those were filmed, Lizzie had long since wrapped up production. But we won't repeat any of the rumors we've heard on the subject until we find out something more solid.

How can I e-mail Hilary Duff (Lizzie) and the rest of the cast?

If you want to e-mail any of the cast of Lizzie McGuire, go to the Lizzie McGuire website at ZoogDisney.com. You say you want their REAL e-mail addresses? Sorry, celebrities don't give those out!

Is there going to be a Lizzie movie?

YESSS!!!
After a lot of talk and a lot of speculation, a Lizzie McGuire started production on October 14, 2002 and wrapped up December 11! A release date of May 2, 2003 has been announced. This film will see Lizzie graduating from junior high, then going to Rome on a class trip where she's mistaken for an Italian pop star, which causes all sorts of unforseen events to happen. This will be the first time a Disney television show has crossed over to the big screen. Ever since plans for this movie were announced (read the original press release
here) there have been reports and rumors about delays and possible cancellation of the movie, plus stories about who is or isn't in the cast, but the final list includes besides Hilary Duff (Lizzie): Adam Lamberg (Gordo), Jake Thomas (Matt), Robert Carradine (Sam McGuire), Hallie Todd (Jo McGuire), Ashlie Brillault (Kate Sanders) and Clayton Snyder (Ethan Craft). Unfortunately, Lalaine (Miranda) and Kyle J. Downes (Larry Tudgeman) will not appear in the film.

What about Lizzie McGuire books?

The Lizzie McGuire Movie "junior novel" is out and it's being snatched up and read by Lizzie fans everywhere! Those who have read it say it has some big surprises in it and it won't disappoint the show's fans. So far, the "code of silence" has held on the message boards and no one has revealed any big surprises.
Also newly released (April 2003): New Kid in School, the sixth in the series of Lizzie boks adapted from the TV show. This one contains "novelizations" of the episodes "Lizzie's Nightmares" and "I Do, I Don't."

Disney has a line of Lizzie paperback books which each contain two "novelizations" of previously seen TV episodes. They are: #1 When Moms Attack (which includes "When Moms Attack" and "Between A Rock and a Bra Place"), #2 Totally Crushed (which includes "Scarlett Larry" and "Lizzie and Kate's Big Adventure"), #3 Lizzie Goes Wild (which includes "Bad Girl McGuire" and "Come Fly WIth Me"), #4 The Rise and Fall of the Kate Empire (which includes "The Rise and Fall of Kate" and "Party Over Here") and #5, Picture This (which includes "Picture Day" and "In Miranda Lizzie Does Not Trust"). Plus there's Lizzie McGuire's Quiz Book, which is full of Lizzie trivia and personality tests. Another announced title is Lizzie McGuire: My Secret Journal, a scrapbook set for release in April 2003 by Hyperion Press. Plans for a scrapbook from The Lizzie McGuire Movie have been cancelled. All the above can be purchased or pre-ordered right now. Prices: My Secret Journal, $6.99. The Quiz Book, $3.99. All others are $4.99.

Is Adam Lamberg really eighteen?

He is now, unless every biography of him we've seen is wrong. When Lizzie first began production, Adam was a few weeks shy of his sixteenth birthday. He didn't turn seventeen until after the first season episodes were shot and was finished filming the show three months before turning eighteen. One reason he can get away with playing a younger character is that he's of short stature, only 5'2" when filming began, shorter than his co-stars Hilary Duff and Lalaine. (He's grown a few inches since then.) But his voice sounds more like a seventeen-year-old, doesn't it?

What about Clayton Snyder? Is he really only 15?

Again, we don't have any birth certificates, but that's what our information says. There's been some arguing on some of the fansites that he was born in 1984, but most everyone agrees now that he was born in '87. How can he be so much bigger and older-looking than Adam Lamberg? What can we tell you except that people are different and they are different sizes, too.

Is Hilary Duff going with Aaron Carter? What about Frankie Muniz?

This question has been asked ever since they kissed on the "Aaron Carter Is Coming to Town" episode. We finally heard it from the horse's mouth when Hilary was on Live with Regis and Kelly on Memorial Day 2002. She said that yes, she did date Aaron for a while, but their schedules made it impossible to be together very much. The "romance" is long over, apparently.

For a while, things went pretty well with Hilary and Frankie. The two of them were seen together a lot, both on and off the set of the projects they worked on together (the "Lizzie in the Middle" episode and the upcoming film Agent Cody Banks), and the reports were that they really seemed to like each other and obviously enjoyed each other's company. But more recent reports (or gossip, if you will) have them breaking up circa December 2002, just in time for things to be very awkward when they have to start promoting Agent Cody Banks! We have to say, though, that Hil and Frankie looked like they were OK with each other at ACB's premiere.

What are the lyrics to the theme song?

If you believe
We've got a picture-perfect plan
We've got you fooled
'Cause we only do the best we can
And sometimes we make it
And sometimes we fake it
But we get one step closer each and every day
And we'll figure it out on the way

Who sings the theme song?

This has to be the best-kept secret since D-Day! We've NEVER been able to find this out! Some people have suggested that the singer sound like Hallie Todd, who plays Jo McGuire on the show. Interesting. (Personally, we don't think so, though.) The Lizzie McGuire soundtrack CD has "E. Lurie" credited, but we think that means that Elliot Lurie, the show's music supervisor, wrote the song.
